Moong dal, also known as mung bean, is a plant species in the legume family that is native to the Indian subcontinent. The mung bean is mainly cultivated in East, Southeast and South Asia¹. Moong dal is a rich source of protein along with iron and fiber. It can be cultivated as Kharif in addition to a summer crop. Moong dal is an Indian origin crop and can grow as a relay crop to overcome the risk³.

In conclusion, moong dal has a long history in India and has become an integral part of Indian cuisine and culture. Today, India remains one of the largest producers of moong dal in the world.
